The beginning of the century... Karen Blixen sets off on a journey to Kenya, where her entrepreneur husband grows coffee. Here, in the heart of Africa, fate will bring Karen together with her true and only love.

User Review

Living in a world that is constantly changing is something familiar to all of us. We keep up with the times, master new technologies, stay up to date with the latest information... And many of us lose patience along the way. We are used to getting everything quickly. Everything around us speaks to this: fast food (obvious), instant communication, high-speed trains, and many other examples. These are the first things that come to mind. But this film is about a time when things like walking or eating were rituals that people enjoyed and took pleasure in. When the world was an object of contemplation, rather than, by and large, an object of consumption. Just remember Karen's words: “He let me see the world through the eyes of God!” He did this with the help of an airplane. In a modern interpretation, it would sound something like this: “He gave me the opportunity to cut my travel time by almost three times!”

That's why this film should not just be watched, but contemplated, immersing oneself in the atmosphere of that time. This is what the numerous landscapes, well-chosen music, and slightly drawn-out plot encourage us to do. We are slowly but surely sucked into the vortex of an era that was on the verge of great change.

But the main thing in this film is the story of a woman. A woman who wanted to love and be loved. It's trite, but what else could you want from life? She had a truly strong character, which manifested itself in her steadfastness in the face of all the adversities that fate had thrown at her: a forced marriage of convenience, a serious illness she suffered, the collapse of her business, and the death of a loved one. She did not give up; she put her pen to paper. By putting her life down on paper, she became a writer. The story of Karen Blixen is a story that inspired Sidney Pollack to make a film based on it, a story that inspires us to live despite all the difficulties.

The wonderful performances of Meryl Streep and Robert Redford are another reason to watch this film. The main characters reflect the inner essence of their characters well. Indeed, Meryl's aristocratic features reveal her willpower and strength of character, while Redford's light brown hair and open blue eyes convey a spirit of freedom...

I would like to note another point in this film, namely the problem of ethnic assimilation of the peoples and tribes of Africa, as well as other ethnic groups with a primitive communal structure. Is it right to impose our worldview on people with a completely different way of thinking? Is it right to “teach life” to those who have not needed us for hundreds of years and may not need us to this day? This is a controversial issue, and everyone has their own opinion. It's just something to think about.

As you can see, the film is multifaceted. The film is amazing!
