The story takes place in England at the end of the 18th century. Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her five daughters as profitably as possible to ensure them a comfortable future. One of the sisters, Elizabeth, is in no hurry to get married, and her father supports her in this. When a wealthy bachelor, Mr. Bingley, moves into a neighboring estate, the Bennet family is thrown into turmoil. The eldest daughter, Jane, is considered the main contender for marriage, while Elizabeth begins to see Bingley's best friend, the handsome but arrogant Mr. Darcy. After Bingley's unexpected departure for London, Elizabeth becomes disillusioned with Mr. Darcy, blaming him for Jane being left alone. But an incident involving her younger sister Lydia opens Elizabeth's eyes to the true nature of her relationship with Darcy.

User Review

The film is based on the 1813 book of the same name, which I haven't read, but judging by the brief plot summary on Wikipedia, it's pretty faithful to the original. The book on which the film is based was written by a woman, which is evident in the way the plot focuses on relationships between people. The first thing that catches the eye when watching the film is how beautifully the 19th-century setting is conveyed, especially the interiors of the homes of the super-rich characters of that time. Incidentally, there are no completely destitute characters fighting for their existence in the film; that's not what it's about, but the difference between the middle class and the rich is, let's say, noticeable. It is not only the setting of the film that immerses you in the atmosphere, but also the dialogues, which are filled with refined, overly polite phrases. However, this does not prevent some characters from expressing their opinions with blunt directness.

The main issue explored in the film is the balance between the importance of material well-being and personal happiness in relationships. Those who are obsessed with material things or their reputation, which is also related to material things, are contrasted with those who are imbued with sincere feelings and affection. This makes you think about your own values.

As for the development of the relationship between the main characters, I personally did not quite understand what exactly it was based on. How could they become so attached to each other when they met so rarely and exchanged only short phrases? Such a relationship seemed superficial to me, especially since they learned a lot about each other not personally, but through intermediaries, listening to rumors that were not always verified. I understand that it is difficult to show the development of real relationships in a film, especially in the 19th century, but it is still based on a book. Perhaps it seems that way because not everything from the original was conveyed, otherwise it would have been a series.
