Westworld 4K 1973 Ultra HD 2160p
The Western World is one of three giant theme parks built on the remains of American nature. There is also the Roman World and the Medieval World. For $1,000 a day, tourists can enjoy themselves to their heart's content.
The robots inhabiting these amusement parks can be raped, killed, loved, shot, or chopped with a sword. You can even befriend them. They never fight back and have no emotions.
But suddenly, something goes wrong in the well-oiled mechanism of the attraction. A computer malfunction spreads like the plague. The robots begin to revolt...
User Review
Judging by the announcements, a remake of the film Westworld is planned for 2012. Actually, we know how these remakes are made and what they often turn out to be, so in order to have something to spit on if the experiment fails, I advise all science fiction fans to watch the 1973 original with Yul Brynner.
So, there's this amusement park populated by robots that you can do whatever you want with—even kill and fuck them (well, obviously you can't read the Bible to them). But then an infection appears and slowly spreads throughout the park, causing errors in the actions of the biological machines (they didn't know what computer viruses were back then—they didn't exist, just like personal computers in general). As a result, the plot follows the classic pattern: the “bad” robot against the “good” guy. I put that in quotes because while watching, I had a strong desire to read between the lines and see between the frames. So that the robots wouldn't rebel without any real reason. I wanted an explanation for their desire to deal with humans, and I came up with one myself. For example, a feeling of revenge. To show these humans that they can't kill and abuse us with impunity as they please! Or a keen thirst for justice. Today you have us, but tomorrow we have you! Ironclad logic.
I would like to hope that the creators of the remake will not just make a blockbuster with special effects, but will breathe new life into the film with a fresh dose of drama. Otherwise, even Russell Crowe in the lead role won't be able to save it. Incidentally, Crichton himself was eager to remake Westworld using new technology, and discussions about this were already underway in the late 1990s, but apparently he was already seriously ill at the time and it did not work out.
