The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die 4K 2023 Ultra HD 2160p
In 2023, Netflix ended the not-so-popular historical series The Last Kingdom, about the confrontation between the English peoples and the northern conquerors in the early 10th century. The project, which many saw as an attempt to cash in on the hype surrounding Vikings, quickly emerged from the shadow of its more famous competitor and found its audience, who loved all five seasons of the show.
Seven Kings Must Die is a feature-length sequel, which, of course, should not be watched in isolation from the main storyline. The film will put an end to the characters' story in the best traditions of the series — with large-scale battles, betrayals, and love stories.

And so comes to an end the story of the incredible life of Uhtred, son of Uhtred, Lord of Bebbanburg.
However, this story is not entirely about him; it is about England, which for many centuries was fragmented into small pieces, ruled by aldermen and princes who were as petty as their territories.
The great Saxon king Alfred began the unification of the lands. Unfortunately, during his lifetime, he was unable to fully realize his noble dream.
Neither could his enterprising and courageous son Edward, as Uthred refused to return Northumbria, the very “Last Kingdom,” to a ruler who was not ready to become a father to all his subjects, whether Christian or pagan, Saxon or Dane. This grand goal proved to be beyond the capabilities of Edward's son and Alfred's grandson, Athelstan. After centuries of fragmentation, bloody wars, and brutal strife, England finally became united.
It was very pleasant to immerse myself in my favorite story again, to meet my favorite characters, who have become almost like family. To watch Uhtred rush to England's aid once again, accompanied by his loyal companions Sithric and Finan. To hear the incredibly atmospheric soundtracks again, to “participate” again in the bloody slaughter of one tribe by another, to see again the stunning (slightly modified) opening credits of the series, which from the very first seconds immerse you in this Nordic medieval story.
There are also new characters representing the second generation. I think if the creators made a full season out of the feature film, they could be properly developed. I would like to know more about Uhtred's son and heir Osbert, about Athelstan, about Uhtred's only daughter Scythra (who did not even appear in the film) and her life after Sigthrig's death, about the last days of King Edward, and about the relationship between Uhtred and the queen dowager.
King Athelstan does not appear as a knight in shining armor, the savior of England, and a great ruler. At first, he is an inexperienced, flighty boy who is easily influenced by bad advisors. Moreover, his preferences in some matters are not entirely traditional, which causes him and others a lot of problems (Many fans of the series did not like this point. I, however, consider it quite appropriate. How else could one explain the fact that Athelstan so blindly idolized Ingilmundr?). But the boy repents, learns his lesson, and tries to make amends for his mistakes (not without Uhtred's help, of course).
Uhtred himself is also not quite the same as he was before. And that's natural. He is still ready to defend what is dear to him to the end. However, he is also fed up with blood and battles. His heart no longer yearns for battle. Uhtred wants to work quietly and peacefully for the good of his people and his family.
The ending moved me. Perhaps partly because this story has now come to a definitive conclusion.
I recommend it to all lovers of Scandinavian culture, harsh epic stories, and fans of the TV series of the same name.
