True story about Jean Luchaire, his daughter Corinne Luchaire and the german ambassador to Paris during WW2, Otto Abetz.

This movie very well shows how Nazi Germany tried to not only control occupied France, but also gain sympathy under the population by heavily influencing the printed media. In this movie, we see how the Nazi supported and controlled newspapers, like "the New Times" from Jean Luchaire. It is a story of how collaboration with the Nazi occupier caused quite some people to live the high life and collect many riches.

Apart from this, the movie also shows the devastation of Tuberculosis. How, before a real treatment was found in the 1950's and 1960's, people's lives were devastated by Tuberculosis.

A combination of some excellent acting and truely breathtaking scenes make this movie a very very worthwile watch. My personal advice would be to watch this movie followed by "Diplomacy" (2014). The latter movie will give the viewer a more complete view on how Paris was not only governed during WW2, but also was able to survive practically intact during the attack of the Allied Forces. This against orders from Adolf Hilter to put Paris to ashes by the retreating Nazi forces.
