1984. Sonny Vaccaro, a marketing scout in Nike’s basketball division, may not know much about athletic shoes, but he has a knack for spotting talent. His superiors want to sign three promising players on the cheaper end of the market for advertising contracts, but Sonny insists on choosing just one—rising star Michael Jordan. Everyone knows that the athlete prefers to play in Adidas sneakers and is also considering a partnership with Converse, so Sonny decides to make him a unique offer: to create a signature brand and develop a line of sneakers specifically for Jordan.
