I think Luc Besson's film is a very unusual interpretation of the Dracula story. Instead of the usual monster, I saw almost a human being, and that completely changes the whole story.
Dracula as a victim of his own pride — this idea seems to me to be key to understanding the concept. The film shows that the protagonist's downfall began not with a mystical curse, but with his own challenge to the higher powers. His immortality is not a gift, but a punishment for his pride, for trying to dictate terms to God himself. This gives the story a philosophical subtext: even the strongest people can fall because of excessive self-confidence.
Dracula as a tragic hero and victim of love — this interpretation is the most touching. In Besson's interpretation, the vampire ceases to be a one-dimensional villain: he becomes a creature tormented by the eternal search for his beloved. His thirst for blood is secondary to his thirst for love — and this is the paradoxical humanity of Dracula. The hero has both a dark grandeur and a painful vulnerability.
This film breaks genre expectations — instead of horror, I saw a melancholic poem about love and loss.
An unconventional moral: evil is born not from the nature of a creature, but from its choices and pride.
At the same time, I understand that this interpretation may disappoint those who are expecting a classic story about a bloodthirsty vampire. But it is precisely this bold reinterpretation that makes the film interesting and memorable.
