Pinocchio: Unstrung 4K 2026 Ultra HD 2160p

Director Rhys Frake-Wakefield and his pals are somewhat the founders of the "Twisted Childhood Universe". Basically, they are waiting patiently until all the original copyrights of world-famous youth films and series expire, and then they transform the beloved and peaceful cartoon figures into twisted and murderous villains. It started with Winnie the Pooh, but in the meantime, we have also seen Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan, Popeye, and Bambi turn into monsters. Now it's Pinocchio's turn.

Of course, you can't set your expectations too high. You can only hope that a movie like this isn't too dumb and simply offers a bit of entertainment and a gory good time. And "Pinocchio Unstrung" surprisingly succeeds in that! The script is totally absurd and constantly comes up with illogical new twists and characters out of nowhere. That's not a bad thing, though, because most of these characters die a gruesome (and creative) death shortly afterwards. Familiar B-horror face Richard Brake ("Barbarian", "3 From Hell") plays Gepetto, who is more of a mad scientist than a toymaker, and the voice of the psychotic cricket will also sound familiar, because that is none other than Robert Englund ("Nightmare on Elm Street"). The make-up effects are nicely extreme, the pacing is fast enough not to think about all the illogical & senseless stuff, and there's gratuitous blood and violence aplenty. More than enough elements for an hour and a half of pure fun.
