User Review
As someone who loves breaking down narrative structures and watching how a director brings a vision to life, I found Ghost in the Cell to be a really fresh take on Indonesian cinema. Joko Anwar mixes extreme, bloody horror with absurd comedy and bold political jokes in a way we rarely see. The story cleverly traps a bunch of criminals in a prison and forces them to fake being "good" to survive an artsy ghost, which creates a super fun and chaotic dynamic. Even though the ending feels a little rushed and messy, the cast performances are absolutely top-notch, especially Aming who completely steals every single scene he is in. It is a loud, crazy, and incredibly creative movie that is totally worth watching!
