It's almost impossible for me to objectively evaluate childhood classics. And 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' is exactly that. I don't think that in my generation there is at least one person who has never watched this masterpiece of its kind.

Yes, now this movie evokes very different emotions when watching it. A feeling of nostalgia and a smile at the thought of how we were afraid of this movie in our time, how afraid to sleep after watching it.

And indeed, we were afraid. First of all, it was scary because the danger came not from the reality, where even though the horror is terrible, but still we are somehow used to navigate it, but from the realm of the absolutely irrational - from dreams. And in dreams there are no guarantees, even to wake up at will is not always possible, that is why it is especially creepy.

Secondly, it is, of course, the image of Freddy Krueger. In my childhood he scared me much more than all the Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers put together. Those were small-minded, mute and impersonal killers, like localized natural disasters or rabid animals, which are useless to try to understand, you have to avoid them. Krueger, on the other hand, was a killer with his own twisted logic, his own character and even charisma. That's why he killed unlike his colleagues not boringly and methodically, but inventively and especially sophisticated.

So this movie scared me a lot in its time, and until today, although now it is no longer a movie.
