An out-of-print actor, suffering from creative impotence and depression, receives a lucrative offer: to star in the latest adaptation of The Exorcist, and thus regain his former glory, clear his name and reputation. From the first days of filming a promising project becomes a failure, and it's not the attitude of the crew, or the lack of professionalism of the protagonist. No. Something sinister has entered Anthony's mind, starting his own internal battle with personal demons.

It happens that behind the wrapper of demonic research lurks that deeper meaning. Such was the case with The Exorcism. Crowe's character, addicted, and from a variety of vices, here you have alcoholism, and sexual deviance, and drugs ran past.

In his world there is no good mood, and he himself has long since written himself off in circulation. And dwells not in the present, but in a constant reflection of the traumas of the past. And this process does not allow to complete the creative reanimation of the hero. He's withering, and he's tired.

In recent years, Crowe has not really done well with roles. But the image of depressive actor, grieving about personal tragedy, and willfully released in the world of demons metaphysical demons of the present, Russell turned out to be the most harmonious.

Here it is definitely necessary to immediately set the designations. It is not that horror, and not that mysticism, for the most part it is a tragedy of human life revealed through the mystical subtext, which is obvious, but not frightening. The accentuation is made on the inability of Anthony's character to use the given chance correctly, here he is contentedly looking at himself in the mirror, anticipating his return to the Olympus of cinematic fame, and here, obsessed with his personal experience of pain, he lets the real demon into his world. God bless cinematic authenticity. And if you expect to see here an action confrontation between Russell the boy and brutal spawn of Hell, then do not wait. You expect a narrative about a realized failure of the sky of the way to the scorcher. And exorcism here is a necessary therapy, first of all to forgive himself.

Otherwise: I really liked the work with the picture. It's as if the same cameraman as Markus Nispel was working. A certain amount of bloody and violent scenes do take place. The cast is suddenly full of delivering faces. And the main thing here is that between the whole ensemble of The Exorcist and Mr. Russell Crowe there is an interaction, from which the depressing message of the tape begins to work for the viewer.

One snag - extremely similar themes, albeit within the framework of advertising rentals, with a year earlier Exorcist Daddy. Maybe we should have waited? Nevertheless, for solitary reflection, and those who have problems with chemical addiction Exorcism will be perfect.
