Guillermo del Toro's 'Hellboy' was good - both the original and the sequel. Del Toro just can't do bad. Oh, and Ron Perlman looked like a devil from the underworld without makeup. When the threequel didn't pan out, before the release of Neil Marshall's 2019 version, many asked the question: why? And after all, David Harbour and Milla Jovovich were there. As time has shown - no why.

So in anticipation of a new film adaptation about the adventures of the red-skinned spawn, the question has only become more acute. What's this version for?

I wasn't expecting a miracle. But I didn't expect such boring, bland, lazy action. The movie starts with a monster attack on a train. Sounds good. But... a monster this poorly drawn is the worst thing you could find. It's JPG crocodile-level crap from Asylum Studios. And we're not looking at a student's handiwork. Yes, 20 million dollars budget is not 100. But it's not 1!

It gets worse. Almost all the special effects are just not good enough - and Hellboy's rubber abs shake when he walks.

So that you don't suddenly admire the picture on the screen, the authors made a color correction, muting all the colors. The picture is almost black and white. Even the bright red (supposedly) skin of Hellboy looks like a brick wall covered with dust. Dreariness.

Characters. If Del Toro had amazing characters walking next to Hellboy, Jack Kesey has characters walking next to him who are so uninteresting and empty that their presence or absence in the frame doesn't change anything at all. Evil forces are represented on the screen by such a pathetic hodgepodge, as if they were a mass of people in shabby costumes from Halloween the year before last. The hunchback can scare only osteopaths with the crunch of his bent neck. Witches can only scare preschoolers. The rest of the witches. even homegrown Indonesian handicrafts look better.

The plot. I haven't been so unbearably bored in a long time. The movie is an hour and a half long (the shortest of the Hellboys), and within half an hour of the beginning I was already thinking: when will it end?

There are bad movies. Not enough stars, budget, plot ideas, originality, just bad luck. But 'Hellboy: The Curse of the Hunchback'... Only the grave can fix that movie....
