British nobleman Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro) hastily returns to his family estate after learning that his brother has disappeared and the surrounding peasants have been killed by some kind of monster. In trying to find his brother, Lawrence discovers that the monster that killed the people was clearly of supernatural origin. However, what instills fear in him is the revealed secret side of himself.

User Review
In a certain British place, a young man, the son of a local lord, who has hardly left the castle for many years, is mauled by an unknown beast. At the funeral comes his brother, who once went to America and became a famous actor (Benicio Del Toro). He finds the castle in disrepair, the father (Anthony Hopkins) is downcast and doesn't clean his fingernails, and a sikh servant keeps a gun loaded with silver bullets at home. On the next full moon, the beast devours half the gypsy tabor standing nearby and bites the prodigal son not to death. What follows will be a sea of blood, a Victorian madhouse with an ice font, a father's terrible secret, the selfless efforts of a young girl, the bride of a dead brother, to save a failed brother-in-law, hell and destruction.

The first thing to keep in mind are the words of Benicio Del Toro, spoken during his Moscow visit. “You shouldn't try to over-interpret 'The Wolf Man' - it's a monster movie, and nothing more.” It's a remake of the classic 1941 black-and-white monster movie. The action from the twenties moved to the Victorian era - there the costumes are more beautiful and sharper conflict between mystical and rational, and so almost nothing changed.

The main thing remained the same. Rick Baker, the best makeup artist to date, who has won six Oscars and God knows how many more nominations, lovingly recreated the wolf makeup of Jack Pierce, the revolutionary and visionary who invented “Dracula” and “The Mummy”. That in itself is grandiose and worth going to see this movie: a wild yak hair mask with wolf fangs, under which hides a hereditary English lord played by a sad-eyed Puerto Rican. In the age of 3D, it evokes the kindest of nostalgic feelings. And at the moment where Sir Anthony Hopkins, who has just eaten the servants, sits at the piano and plays Chopin with his short thick hairy fingers, the nostalgia just sings (he sings, by the way, honestly himself, the camera shows it on purpose). She also sings in a lovely scene where a maiden with loose hair and a .455 caliber revolver runs along the edge of a forest, with a wolf-man chasing her, and we are shown only silhouettes in the moonlight.
It's all quite fun, especially seeing that Sir Hopkins hasn't lost his appetite for raw meat. The sad thing about the whole story, however, is only one thing. In 1941, when the original Wolf Man was made, the plan was to make a B-movie, a low-budget thrash flick that became a horror classic and influenced all man-beast movies for seventy years to come.

It happened regularly back then, such was the time. In 2010, they released a movie with a 90-million dollar budget and great expensive actors (besides Del Toro and Hopkins there is Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving), which became a cute but absolutely passable thrash. For some reason, this is happening more and more often.
