Storyline
While traveling in Auvergne, two young women, Anna and Françoise, unwillingly venture into the realm of Morgane, the Fairy Queen. Now, to go on living throughout the centuries, Morgane must obtain the souls of the ladies who cross her kingdom. To those who accept her pact she gives eternal youth and beauty. As for the ones that object to it, she lets them rot in the dungeons of the castle. Anna signs the pact but not Françoise, determined to escape the all-female lesbian community of the Fairy's court...

If you want to give your brain a break for one evening, relax, and watch something pleasing to the eye, then you might as well give preference to this old French film. Of course, it would be easier to put on a disc with a selection of Playboy clips, but we're not looking for the easy way out, are we? Besides, Playboy is so vulgar, while this film offers true French aesthetics, costumes that have won awards at some fashion competitions (at least, according to the credits), a fantasy setting, and a smooth immersion into a surreal world with the nymphs of that very Morgana... You won't even notice how your thoughts completely disconnect from reality, unless, of course, you fall asleep out of boredom. However, one thing won't interfere with the other — no one has ever canceled the benefits of healthy sleep.

Morgana in Bruno Gantillon's film, by the way, is indeed the same one from Arthurian legend. However, she is not hiding in foggy Albion, but somewhere in the Gallic forests. And she is exclusively engaged in luring beautiful girls into her castle, gathering a real harem from them. Two modern French women, Anna and Françoise, fall into it, allowing the young director (who was only 25 at the time of filming) to experiment with surrealistic erotic images to his heart's content. However, Buñuel did not particularly succeed in this, and depicting unrestrained lesbian orgies in the early 1970s was not yet very acceptable. The result was a film that was pleasing to the eye but completely empty and meaningless. Reflections on the eternal problem of life and death, on the ghost of eternal youth, on the price a person is willing to pay for immortality did not work out for Gantillon, either because of his youth or because of his excessive enthusiasm for the external aspects of his film: interiors, costumes, frame construction, lighting, etc. It must be said that the picture turned out to be very elegant, and even embellished with a large number of young and beautiful female bodies, but nothing more. The director's constant attempts to remind the viewer of the futility and vanity of human existence through the contrast of youth and beauty with old age and ugliness are only irritating in their obsessive artificiality: why is he imposing his philosophy on us? The dwarf Gurt and the old women imprisoned in the dungeon, who were once Morgana's subjects but fell out of favor with her, are perceived as something alien and completely unnecessary to the film, annoying clouds in a cloudless sky. Young Gantion is unable to have a serious conversation about life and death. But a beautiful and empty light erotic film could have worked out quite well, if not for the desire to shoot something more. However, as I said above, if you try to turn off your brain while watching, Morgana and Her Nymphs can help you relax and unwind. Otherwise, you'll just fall asleep. So, in any case, the result will be the same.
