Jallo, filmed by Maurizio Prado, serves as an excellent example of the classic genre. Here you have a mysterious killer in dark clothing and a shiny thin razor prepared for the next victim. And what about the intensifying atmosphere of horror when the killer mercilessly breaks the glass in the victim's last refuge (we see such techniques in Dario Argento's The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Sergio Martino's The Scorpion Has a Tail, and other films of this genre). It is also worth noting the skill in creating the dynamism of the chase, the tension and fear, which increase with excessive speed and make the viewer's heart freeze in anticipation of something very bad.
Among the actors, I would like to highlight the performance of the red-haired beauty Nieves Navarro, who once again finds herself in mortal danger, but, cunning as ever, finds a way out.
The film features her constant partner, Simon Andreou, but this time not as a brutal man who treats all his rivals to a beating, but as a rather calm musician obsessed with his work. This time, he is paired with the enterprising journalist Anouchka Borowa, who, unfortunately, never appeared in Jallo again.
The plot of the film is moderately convoluted. A murder witnessed by the main character in the observation square triggers a chain of further murders. The killer makes deadly visits, and suspicion playfully shifts from one character to another. Almost everyone is limping, a young man carefully examines razors in a shop window, and a girl screams in despair when she sees a group photo of all the characters. Which one of them is the villain?
The director masterfully scattered a large number of false clues. But, as is customary in giallo, the denouement will be as unexpected as the killer's motive, which the viewer will only learn in the final scene.
Special attention should be paid to the remarkable musical score, which served as an elegant detail in the film.
