After the magnificent first film, shot in the spirit of Tarantino, but still with its own unique atmosphere and excellent acting, it was simply impossible not to watch the new film about the great Finnish warrior. So, I turn on the film and prepare to immerse myself in the wonderful continuation of the story.
The first thing that immediately caught my eye was the magnificent three-axle truck, which was quite impressive for its time! I should mention that the action takes place in 1946! But the main character was driving what appeared to be a vehicle produced by the Soviet KRAZ automobile plant, which only began production in 1959. Oh well, we've seen stranger things in movies, it happens...
The problem is that while the first film was created as a story about the willpower and spirit of the main character, unrelated to current political conflicts, and even the main enemies were the fascists, the second film was created exclusively to please the West, where, of course, the Soviet troops suddenly turned out to be the most despicable. Great. But that's just the beginning, and the worst is yet to come. From the weak script to the completely incomprehensible acting, the film was doomed to a low rating from the start. Neither the now famous Stephen Lang nor the Hollywood-worthy special effects can save it. Tomilla, it must be said, is a good actor and did everything he could, but it's not enough. While the first film was captivating with its story in general and its superb acting in particular, here I saw neither the necessary level of suspense nor any soul-stirring drama. The main villain is unrealistically caricatured compared to the cold, truly terrifying SS officer, brilliantly played by Henny in the first part. And the path of the main character is only worthy of the fantasy genre. It is precisely this unreality, from the point of view of a certain “plausibility,” albeit often very conditional, which is an important criterion for me personally, that became the weight that dragged the film down. This is not just a bloody fairy tale, but completely senseless and unnecessary trash, in my opinion. In the end, I wish Finnish cinema success and good luck, and at the same time, I urge its leaders to think hard about who they are making films for and, most importantly, why...
