Day of the Animals 4K 1977 Ultra HD 2160p
The depletion of the earth's ozone layer causes animals above the altitude of 5000 feet to run amok, which is very unfortunate for a group of hikers who get dropped off up there by helicopter just before the quarantine is announced.
User Review
Just seeing the opening credits—which talk about the destruction of the ozone layer caused by humans and the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays on animal brains—you might think this is either a Greenpeace-style pseudo-documentary propaganda piece with the moral message “Love animals!” or a bad B-movie about an animal uprising, since it was precisely in the ’70s that this theme was explored in masterpieces like *Jaws* and *Piranha*, only to die out almost immediately under the onslaught of *Grizzly*, ‘The Swarm,’ 'Barracudas,‘ and other killer zebras, maniac groundhogs, pedophile eels, and many other unjustly wronged representatives of the animal kingdom. However, 'Day of the Animals’ doesn’t fall into either of the two categories mentioned above.
First and foremost, despite its apparent schizophrenic nonsense, the film’s plot is highly relevant. We, who call ourselves the kings of nature, are the ones destroying it, and then we suffer the consequences (at this point, the peaceful main theme from *Cannibal Hell* should start playing). Second, the actors are quite good—and I don’t just mean Leslie Nielsen, who has already gone gray here but hasn’t yet found his comedic cinematic path, and therefore plays the villain very convincingly—this applies to almost the entire cast. And third, the music by Efim... Lalo Schifrin. For some reason, I suspect that this man (who wrote the theme song for that mission impossible, even though Tom Cruise has already completed it three times and, according to rumors, is preparing for a fourth, and Lalo also composed the atmospheric musical themes for ‘The Amityville Horror’) can create memorable music with nothing more than a whistle and a whoopee cushion.
So... there was something else on my list... it’s even in the movie’s title... Day... oh, animals! Right, that’s the film’s trump card. There are snakes, dogs, wolves, vultures, owls, pumas, bears, and rats—the latter being linked to the film’s most terrifying scene. And all these little brothers of ours are diligently and earnestly engaged in misanthropy against the backdrop of bright sunlight (seriously, with the exception of a couple of night scenes—this is the sunniest horror movie I’ve ever seen).
As for special effects—there are almost none here, except for blood and the scene where the girl falls off a cliff, which looks more ridiculous than tragic and suggests a momentary lapse of judgment on the editor’s part; however, the skillfully trained representatives of the animal kingdom easily replace any animatronics, CGI, and the like.
Fans of adult content (or just perverts)—if you came here for a fresh dose of female flesh, turn around and march away, because this is a serious endeavor, not a palace of lust. There will be a beautiful blonde, but she won’t take her clothes off. And don’t get your hopes up.
Anyway, if anyone stumbles upon this movie (or one of the two reviews of it)—watch it. If not for the sake of environmentalism, then at least for the scene where a frenzied Leslie Nielsen attacks a bear (the attempt failed, but this feat will go down in history). I can’t promise that after watching it you’ll run around demanding that all factories be shut down, but you can sit down for a couple of minutes, have a smoke, and pour some milk for your cat or dog—you never know what the beast might be up to?
