Filming

Terence Young left the director's chair (the reason was trivial: he couldn't agree on the contract amount) and was replaced by Guy Hamilton. A new screenwriter also appeared - Paul Dene. After such personnel decisions, it was quite natural to expect some changes in the image of Bond. Of course, the producers would not have allowed any radical changes—and there was no particular point in doing so, as the films already had a large fan base, and Saltzman and Broccoli did not want to risk the box office success of the next installment. However, there were some things that could be improved, and that is what happened.

The film

First, the concept of the film itself changed—whereas before the plot could still claim to be realistic to some extent, now it shifted toward fantasy. Bond's adversary was a millionaire villain with the powerful surname Goldfinger, who planned to irradiate the entire US gold reserve stored at Fort Knox. His assistants include a malicious Asian valet, Chinese scientists, and a female flying squadron. In short, a far cry from the Soviet intelligence agents of the previous series. Let's move on. The image of the “Bond girl” has also undergone a slight adjustment. Now she is not just a sex object serving to satisfy Bond's needs — from now on, she is quite self-sufficient and can give the glorious agent a worthy rebuff.

Delight

And now, ladies and gentlemen, he appears on the scene — the Aston Martin DB5 — Bond's main car for many series to come. It comes equipped with a pair of machine guns, a catapult, bulletproof glass, a protective screen, and the ability to release a smoke screen.
