Well, I found out about this film relatively recently. I just read in a magazine that tickets were being given away for the pre-premiere screening. So I got busy. Then I found out more about the film and really wanted to see this project. Well, I've seen the film and formed my opinion. Let's go!
The idea behind the film is not new, but I always welcome it. The essence of the idea is this: people's struggle for survival. In this case, the struggle against the cold and wolves. You don't have to look far to find an example of this, just remember the TV series Lost, where a plane crashes on an island and people try to get by using whatever materials they have at hand. By the way, this is my favorite TV series, and to some extent, I love it because of the idea. As for the wolves, the creators really hit the nail on the head. They are very intelligent, graceful, and ferocious animals. This is what makes the film unique in some ways. Also, it is very typical for this kind of action film for the members of the group to die one by one. But otherwise, the film simply would not make sense.
The plot revolves around the “sanitary inspector” of the forest (let's call him that). But while wolves are usually called that because they kill sick animals, here we are talking about a man who protects people from the wolves themselves. During a flight, his plane crashes in the forest during a heavy snowstorm. The survivors from this plane try to stand together against the forces of nature. But now our “sanitary worker” is no longer playing on his home turf, and now the wolves will begin their revenge, cruel and merciless. In fact, the first fifteen minutes of the plot may seem dull. But don't judge it by the first few minutes. Watch it to the end, and I assure you, you will like it.
The acting is not particularly outstanding, but the lead role is truly magnificent. Liam Neeson is very convincing in the role of a seasoned killer. He manages to convey all the emotions and fears of his character without using much facial expression. For some reason, I could really feel it in his performance. I've been watching his films for a long time, and he's brilliant in all his endeavors. Whether it's the comedy action film The A-Team or the thriller Unknown. Frank Grillo also showed himself in a good light. Of course, Neeson outshone everyone, but Grillo also made a noticeable effort.
Finally, I would like to mention that the flora and fauna play an important role here. I don't even know in which forest the action was filmed, but the landscapes are truly stunning. And the wolves turned out to be quite realistic. By the way, there were quite a few “boo moments” associated with them.
