Dead Man 4K 1995 Ultra HD 2160p
After the death of his parents, William Blake, a young accountant from Cleveland, arrives in the Wild West in search of work. He fails to find work and accidentally becomes involved in a lovers' quarrel between a girl and her ex-boyfriend, the son of a factory owner. After a shootout, the girl and her ex-boyfriend are dead, and the accountant, wounded in the chest near his heart, is found by an Indian named Nobody. The Indian mistakes the young man with glasses for the great English poet William Blake and becomes his guardian angel, suggesting that he replace the poetry of words with the poetry of gunshots. Now they must embark on a mystical journey to the ocean, where William Blake must find peace. Meanwhile, bounty hunters sent by the father of William Blake's first victim are on Blake's trail.
The epigraph to the film is a quote from the French poet Henri Michaux: “One should not travel with a dead man.” One of the most important American “independent” films of the 1990s.
User Review
There will be no spoilers in my review. But I will try to convey the essence accurately.
In a nutshell, the film can be described as follows:
An existential western.
An arthouse film that is worth seeing.
The film is about someone who arrived without knowing where he was going or what he was going to do. But despite all the uncertainty, it is a great picture.
It is a story about how an ordinary person, finding himself in a world that is foreign to him, suddenly loses everything and ceases to be himself, becoming almost a ghost, a spirit.
As a result, he has no place in the ordinary world.
He finds himself on the brink, but no longer experiences any particular emotions; on the contrary, he feels detached.
In the end, like a mythical hero, he simply walks, like an existential kolobok (only, perhaps, not alone), fleeing from the wolf, then from the hare, including, at times, not shying away from dealing with them personally.
And it no longer matters where he is going—to the world of the living or the world of the dead, these concepts merge together.
And if at the beginning of the film, in the ordinary world of people, he was completely disoriented, by the end he clearly understands where he is going.
The hero now has everything he needs.
The awesome music and stunning soundtrack are worth mentioning separately.
In addition, all this takes place in the world of the Northwest Coast of America, in a reality spiced up with local Native American attributes and settlements with very subtly observed ethnographic details.
