After the release of the fifth installment of “Wrong Turn,” perhaps the decisive moment came to stop self-deception.
Declan O'Brien, incidentally, the director of such blockbusters as “Cyclops” and “Cyclops” back in 2009, turned his predatory gaze to “Wrong Turn” and began churning out sequels, although in reality new cyclops-sharks were being released, and the fifth installment finally put the final nail in the coffin of the entire franchise.
“Wrong Turn 5” doesn't even live up to its name: if in the previous films the victims of the mountain cannibals got lost somewhere after turning the wrong way, here the group of meat for slaughter didn't get lost anywhere, but purposefully came to the city where the festival is taking place! Although it's hardly possible to call the set of a single street a city.
However, the script does offer other gifts: the freaks now have a leader, a man who confidently commands them, and the female sheriff creates a resistance force against the forces of evil, handing out firearms to an alcoholic and people she has known for a couple of hours. a car crashes into a tree, but the accident does not harm the group of meatheads, but most importantly, another “wrong turn” became just an excuse for erotic scenes that have no bearing on the plot of the film.
In addition, the meager budget for the film did not allow for high-quality sets and normal makeup for the mountain freaks, so three idiots in carnival masks now run around the plywood pavilions, but the budget cuts did not affect the actors—there is no one to play in “Wrong Turn 5,” as in O'Brien's previous sequels. You forget the characters' names immediately; they all have the same name—meat and meat-eaters. Just looking at the cast, it's reasonable not to expect acceptable acting. There is only one person in the film who can call himself an actor—Doug Bradley—but it would have been wiser for him to refuse to participate in the filming, although after Hellraiser 7 and 8...
But the worst thing is that Wrong Turn 5 is not scary. Not at all. Artificial guts and blood spill onto the sinful earth, but there is no effect, and although the methods of murder are different, they are completely uncharacteristic of the cannibals from Rob Schmidt's original, which means they are just as fake as the artificial guts.
That's it, enough, the franchise is dead, and has been for a long time, ever since Joe Lynch made a decent sequel that was in some ways better than the original. Watching the perversions of Declan O'Brien and his ilk is akin to masochism.
