Hunt for the Wilderpeople 4K 2016 Ultra HD 2160p

Reclusive country folk Bella and Hector become foster parents to Ricky, a problem child from the city. After some adjustment, things go reasonably well. However, Bella's death means that Hector must now look after Ricky himself, and they haven't been getting along. Her death causes Child Services to decide to send Ricky back to the orphanage. Ricky refuses to go back and runs away, ultimately sparking a national manhunt for him and Hector.

New Zealand. A troubled, overweight boy is adopted by a family of part-farmers, part-hunters.
Soon, the wife dies. The withdrawn husband (Sam Neill) is supposed to return the child to the orphanage, but fate intervenes in such a way that he and the boy must flee into the wilderness to escape their pursuers.

The film is very uplifting and cheerful, with amazing soundtracks. What’s the point of this story? Well, nothing particularly special, really—just kindness and humanity.

Sam Neill is a wonderful, versatile actor, so he delivers a brilliant performance even in this somewhat unexpected role. The young boy turned out to be charismatic as well, though I didn’t expect that from him at first. And by the way, if I were to nitpick—the transition from the “little” monster, as he’s portrayed when he first appears, to the subsequent, perfectly reasonable chubby kid writing haiku, came off as a bit too abrupt.

I can confidently recommend this movie for the whole family, as long as you don’t have to explain a word like “pervert” to your kids.
