Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa 4K 2005 Ultra HD 2160p
Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist, is on the other side of the gate. He has befriended someone who resembles his brother, Al, and has met a gypsy resembling Rose. He finds out that the Germans are planning on opening the gate, and attack the other side, which is Ed and Al's home. Although Al has learned a lot, he cannot stop all of them, and Ed cannot use Alchemy while in the other side. Ed tries to stop them, and Al just tries to be able to talk to his brother again, who everyone else thinks is gone.

In the TV series, the brothers had a goal and pursued it at all costs. Here, however, there is no clear goal, and the one that is present feels muddled. The film itself feels rushed compared to the TV series, which ran for 51 episodes. In my opinion, the creators crammed too much information into it; although this made *The Conqueror of Shambhala* more dynamic, it still doesn’t quite measure up to the series.
The 3D graphics, in my opinion, are unnecessary; they really didn’t fit in at all. They weren’t in the series, and I certainly didn’t expect to see them in the movie. Then all these incomprehensible rockets and some kind of super-airplanes, plus Nazis in armor—what is this, pardon the pun? It just doesn’t feel believable at all. Then there’s the secret weapon of the nascent Reich, a crazy blonde—doesn’t it seem like we’ve seen this somewhere before? Couldn’t the developers have come up with something more original? And an alchemist in a world where alchemy doesn’t exist just seems absurd.
I liked the music in the series, and the art style has improved (except for the 3D scenes). At least some of the atmosphere from the series has carried over. I was also pleased with some of the characters, like Mustang, Armstrong, and Winry, who remained practically unchanged, even though their roles in the series aren’t that significant—with the possible exception of Mustang.
Overall, the feature film leaves me with mixed feelings; on the one hand, there’s plenty to praise, and on the other, plenty to criticize, whereas I had no complaints about the series. I don’t recommend watching *The Conqueror of Shambala* right after the series—you risk being disappointed; it’s better to wait a while.
The feature film is weaker than the series; it’s more pretentious and cloying, and the atmosphere that was present in the series is gone. But still, this is the world of “The Alchemist,” even if there are now two worlds here… thanks to the creators for that, at least. Overall, it’s watchable, but for fans of “The Alchemist,” it’s not just watchable—it’s a must-see.
