Storyline
This kicks off with the murder of one Adolf Schwartz (who bears a striking resemblance to another famous Adolf) via the placement of a ravenous piranha fish in his bathtub. Who did it? Nobody knows or cares; they're too busy being distracted by busty Margo Winchester, who hitchhikes into town and gets involved with all the local men. It ends with a series of complicated plot twists that reveal that just about everyone is really someone else. And if it gets too confusing, Russ Meyer helpfully arranges for a one-woman nude Greek chorus to pop up at intervals to explain what's going on.

User Review

After reading Russ Meyer's last name in the credits, you don't have to think much about what the appeal in the movie's title is all about. 'Up!' - is not just a humorously vulgar definition of what is happening in the film, but also a kind of vector of cheerfulness and vitality of the author of the movie, who staked on the simplest solutions and succeeded in it. Of course in 'Up!' the action will be too much. An axe in a policeman's chest, a rape in a river, a broken neck of a rapist, a pervert who looks like Adolf, a piranha in a bathtub, naked women in the woods trying to kill each other.... This is not a complete gallery of images that the viewer will have to evaluate. But enough said.

It is as if Meyer is provoking to irritate not so much the sanctimonious part of the audience. To a much greater extent, Meyer's creation manifests the deeply hidden sanctimonious component that is present in most of the viewers who are loyal to his work. That's what the movie is good for. The viewer will have to ponder the boundaries of good taste one way or another, and the conclusions will likely affect more than just Meyer's work.

Playing off numerous Hollywood clichés, Meyer showcases more than just female busts along the way. His renderings have become much more full-bodied and comprehensive. Full nudity. Close-ups. More violence. Lots of blood. So much so that the absurd undertones become obvious. But would you call his visions pornographic? Isn't there more true pornography in another Columbo detective story about Miss Marple or a moralizing chick-flick muvis with Jennifer Anniston or Reese Witherspoon? Pardon me. We're talking about the late '70s. Then Ellen Burstyn would be more appropriate. The point remains the same.

So, we can only draw conclusions. Reality has been created. The movie has been released. Irritation, disdain and denial are the expected reactions. But are they not the flip side of unconditional acceptance? After all, the movie absolutely falls into the paradigm of modern cinematography. And it will be watched by the same audience that admired 'Psycho' and swooned over 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', recognized Stallone and Meryl Streep, Ben Affleck and Tom Hanks as superstars, admired Julia Roberts and resented her brother.
