User Review

Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. This is one of the best acting duos I have ever seen. Thanks to their friendship, these two were able to create great characters that were different from each other, but it was this difference that complemented them perfectly.

This duo first appeared in the spaghetti western “God Forgives... I Don't.” It was not the worst representative of this sub-genre, although he mostly imitated the films of Sergio Leone, as well as the incredibly successful “Django” by Sergio Corbucci, released a year earlier. The duo became truly famous with “My Name is Trinity” and the good sequel “My Name is Still Trinity”. These films became popular because they introduced an element previously uncharacteristic of spaghetti westerns: comedy. And without this duo, it would be unlikely that it would have been possible to introduce it.

And here it seemed to me that with this wonderful duo there are no more movies I came across “Always Ready” and found out that Hill and Spencer starred together in as many as 15 movies. Not just in spaghetti westerns, at that. So I enjoyed watching this picture even more than I should have.

So, what exactly is this movie? It begins as a quite ordinary situation comedy. That is, the main characters get into various tricky and ridiculous situations from which they are the same ridiculous way and get out. In the beginning, as a result of a misunderstanding, they take someone else's truck. Then, having miraculously escaped arrest, they try to drive away and are mistaken for... mega-cool CIA agents. And then the movie takes a rather unexpected detour and it turns into a parody that mocks various spy works (primarily James Bond movies), as well as the work of intelligence agencies and some stereotypes (like Texans). I don't know about you, but I like it when a movie has surprises like this. The transition was very smooth and pleasant, and the mockumentary itself was incredibly funny.

But this cake would not be so delicious if it were not for its cherry. And that cherry is the duo. So what makes them so good? As I said, it works perfectly due to the fact that these characters are completely different in character. And this is reflected not only in the behavior of the characters and their relationship with each other, but also in the way these two fight. And it is important to pay attention to this, because movies with this duo contain a lot of action. And in most cases, they fight in hand-to-hand combat. And this action is more comedic in nature, thus bringing more humor to their quite funny movies.

So what are their characters like? Terence Hill's character is usually the more agile, cunning, dodgy and funny one. So in a fight, he focuses on these qualities, preferring to dodge blows as well as use various clever tricks (like dressing up in the enemy's uniform). Bud Spencer's character is the opposite of Hill's. Stronger, more sullen, and more straightforward. His dense physique makes him incredibly strong and so fighting him in hand-to-hand combat is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. In these moments, I compare him to a concrete wall. That is, it is useless to hit him with bare hands, because he will not feel anything, and besides, he can fight back. Yes, so give that you just from one blow will be lying on the ground.

Also in the movie there are other minor characters, but they are not so much remembered. Of course, you can single out the CIA chief nicknamed “Tiger”, in the non-serious image of which such characters are ridiculed. But the best in this regard here are the villains. In the image of the chief nicknamed K1, Blofeld from the James Bond movies is parodied. You can also distinguish a couple of his sidekicks and that's it. After all, this is one of those movies where the main characters grab all the attention.

Well and a big mistake would be not to highlight the musical accompaniment Musical compositions in the movie are not very much, but they are good and set the right light tone for the movie.

Now for the flaws. I didn't really like a couple of moments in the movie (for example, the movement of the main characters to the enemy base). On the one hand these moments may have been deliberately introduced by the screenwriter to make fun of them. But on the other hand, they somehow didn't really fit in and looked more like a mistake. In any case, I don't want to focus my attention too much, for they don't spoil the movie that much.

And in the end, I recommend this movie as usual. And any other movie where the duo of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer are present. Even if they're playing separately.
