Ice Age Collision Course 4K (2016) Ultra HD 2160p REMUX

Scrat's epic pursuit of his elusive acorn catapults him outside of Earth, where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the planet. To save themselves from peril, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, traveling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.

Ice Age: Collision Course is presented on 4K UHD with an HEVC / H.265 encoded 2160p transfer in 2.40:1. Perhaps because this is the product of the digital realm, the fact that this was sourced off a 2K DI doesn't lead to the relatively lackluster 4K experience that's on display in some other 2K DI (live action) offerings like X-Men: First Class 4K. While subtle at times, detail levels are definitely more precise in this 4K iteration, and there's an appealing quasi-3D quality to a lot of the imagery that's noticeable from the get go during the outer space sequence. The most obvious uptick in detail levels comes courtesy of all the rendered fur, which improves upon the already impressive detail levels of the 1080p Blu-ray. HDR also adds a nicely nuanced gamut of new interstitial tones, especially in some of the blues and purples that are so prevalent throughout the film. Some of the evocative lighting effects also acquire a new luster in this version.

My youngest would watch a movie so many times you would start to quote it in your sleep. But when the film is as great at the Ice Age movies, you don't mind. I was concerned that this one could not be as hilarious as the others and I am so glad I was worried for nothing. Until now "Dawn of the Dinosaurs" was our family's go to Ice Age movie, but this one is even better... and I didn't think that was possible. In addition to having lots of silly laughs for the kids, there is a ton of great humor - great clean humor - just for adult belly laughs. And an actual plot, which some kids movies tend to forget. It has such a strong, positive, family message. Every member of our family agrees that this is one to own, each of us for different reasons. So here is a huge thumbs up from our gang, ages 7 to 42.
