User Review
Wes Anderson is a unique director. Many people have negative opinions about him for understandable reasons: constant repetition, pretentious fairy-tale-like qualities, and the unrealistic nature of what happens on screen. Such unpopular opinions are understandable. However, for a large number of people, this director's name is associated with warmth and indescribable beauty.
Sometimes it seems that his films are meaningful dreams that you want to return to and sometimes even long for. Covered with the first snow, the narrow evening streets of a small Eastern European city are bathed in the warm light of oil lamps under Alexandre Desplat, who complements this cinematic canvas with a mixture of Polish and Balkan folk music.
The director's melancholic characters are as human as possible, strange as it may sound. Anderson adds unique traits to the characters that say nothing about their personalities and serve no purpose in the plot or backstory. And these insignificant details, such as the stain in the shape of Mexico on Agatha's dress, Mustafa's painted moustache, and Gustav's perfume, remind us of how viewers sometimes tie their shoelaces in a strange way, wear unusual makeup, or refuse to part with a plastic necklace made by their younger sister.
This film has already become a classic, and Wes Anderson's design code has entered global culture. His filming, with the same actors and techniques, makes his films very comfortable and homely for many; you just sit back and enjoy the magic.
