Street Trash 4K 1987 Ultra HD 2160p
New York has been overrun by homeless people gathering at a landfill. A local liquor store sells a drink called Viper for $1 a bottle. The drink is so potent that anyone who drinks it begins to melt. The police, shocked by what is happening, assign the investigation of these inexplicable murders to veteran cop Bill. Will law enforcement be able to get to the bottom of this mystery before Viper is completely wiped off the shelves?
User Review
This is pure trash—cynical and brutal, to boot. There is no plot to speak of here—or rather, none in the sense viewers are accustomed to. The film itself is quite interesting and unique, as it is energetic and substantial, featuring highly original murders; or rather, while the murders in the film are similar, they have their own distinct style—this kind of murder is original in and of itself, one might even call it signature.
The film’s meaning is quite vague; it all begins when the owner of a small liquor store finds a strange box of booze called “Viper.” Without a second thought, he starts selling this swill for a price affordable specifically to the homeless, and everyone who drinks it dies a painful death. The film actually ends when all the liquor has been drunk.
I wouldn’t say “Street Scum” is terrifying in the traditional sense of horror films. It’s more repulsive, since some truly vile murders take place. And it’s brutal; the film shows the lives of homeless people uncensored, and, as we know, the lives of homeless people are cynical and brutal. For example, there’s a scene where homeless people rape a girl, strip her, and kill her, then rape her corpse.
By the way, the film won an award in 1987 for Best Director (Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival).
Many say it’s a trashy comedy, but I didn’t see anything funny in the film; the further the story progresses, the more brutal it becomes—not the other way around, where it gets funnier. Overall, the film is good as trash, so it should appeal to all trash movie enthusiasts.
