The tenth, anniversary installment in the franchise. I only watched the first part and I wouldn't even say that I liked it. But it had its own atmospheric moments, and Pinhead was quite an impressive character, not much to say, but every utterance had weight, making him stand out from the rest of the Cilobites, not to mention the image itself.
Only 350.000 dollars were allocated for filming of the 10th part (and it was released bypassing theaters), but somehow it didn't affect the quality of the film, it doesn't look cheap and somehow badly made, except that in general it reminds a little bit stretched episode of TV series (which is not far from the truth, after all it was filming already the 10th film, and the cliffhanger at the end was saved). Except that there are moments of completely screwed up shooting from a drone (futazh slowed down and quickly cut off, such a thing should not have been inserted into the final editing, although it is clear that they would be sorry) and inarticulate editing at the end (very sped up and crumpled). In terms of actors it's pretty ordinary, tolerable and normal, but Pinhead doesn't look so impressive anymore, and the actor is different, the Auditor is more in the foreground here.
The dialogs are intelligent and enjoyable (if you watch in the original, as always), but the actions of the Cenobites themselves are in the spirit of 'oh, I stepped on a rake', as if they were some inexperienced teenagers. Despite all the classic religious overtones, the ending is pretty interesting in that regard, as Pinhead gives his own take on the whole thing and what he thinks of it.
In terms of makeup and effects it's very good, on the level of horror blockbusters and not penny-pinching home movies in any way. The killing of people by the serial killer, though as brutal as possible, is not shown on camera, which is for the best, really. The scenes in the Domain of the Inquisition are notable for their gruesomeness in the vein of The Human Centipede.
The movie was made in 2016, but wasn't released until 2018. The reason for the delayed release is at the end of the end credits - Weinstein Company LLC.
