Coming from nowhere, Travis knows he has a family, but doesn't realize that four years have passed since his disappearance. The frantic search for himself in the American backwoods is accompanied by the hypnotic music of Ry Cooder. It was over the town of Paris, Texas, that his star truly rose.

Wim Wenders. is such an atypical German director. He doesn't work with his mind, but with his heart, with his soul. For me, Wenders will forever remain a pioneer, a German who broke out of the strict framework of pragmatism, a director who gave the world a fundamentally new cinema, light, radiant, opening a second breath.

It is known that Wenders is a traveler, he likes to visit new places and meet new people. As he put it himself, he likes to travel to preserve the image of his favorite cities.

Each city as well as a person has its own character, its own mood, its own appearance. Maybe it is cold and sad Berlin, inhabited by angels, invisible guardians of peace, or Paris, deserted like Travis's soul, in the state of Texas. Hundreds of cities, hundreds of faces, forever in the heart, forever imprinted in the memory. What a pity that we cannot always feel their spirit, enjoy their unique beauty and charm.

A lonely wanderer, coming from nowhere and going nowhere. He may seem to be in a state of frustration and does not even know his name or the purpose of his destination. A confused and detached look, an expression of fatigue and indifference on a dry, weary face. What is driving this man? Where is he going, why? Maybe he intends to escape from the past, to dissolve in this Godforsaken wilderness, to get lost like a grain of sand in the midst of similar grains of this vast prairie. Thoughts are confused, images are blurred before his eyes.

A long and thorny path awaits Travis. He goes in search of his past, intending to find the beloved woman who left him long ago. Together with his son, he travels across the vast country, leaving behind hundreds of thousands of kilometers, until finally he gets to a small abandoned place in the city of Paris, in the state of Texas. Fate turns out to be favorable to him, and he meets Jane. This meeting scene and the first conversation between Travis and Jane in years struck a particular chord with me. I'm not even afraid to call it brilliant. It's been a long time since I've seen such sincere, deep and heartfelt acting. Two people 'living in different worlds', two and unattached lost souls. Will they be able to make a step towards each other, or will there be a wall of misunderstanding between them forever? Or maybe only repentance and forgiveness can bring them out of the darkness? After all, forgiveness is not so difficult, forgiveness is a trump card, but not a sacrifice.

I just can't help noting the excellent acting of Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski. You don't see such skill very often. Well and the finishing touch of this amazing and sad picture is the magnificent blues music by Ry Cooder. Harmoniously woven into the narrative, it mesmerizes with its hypnotic chords.

Wenders makes movies predominantly in the 'Road Movie' genre. The road is just a symbol in his movies. The road is the path of life that a person chooses. Whether it will be smooth or winding is up to him.

'Every man is free to change his destiny. That is my credo, my policy.' (Wim Wenders)
