Storyline
When two girls go missing, Paul Chartier, an impulsive young police recruit, is assigned to « Maldoror ». This secret unit has been set up to monitor a dangerous sex offender. When the operation fails, fed up with the limits of the legal system, Chartier embarks as a solitary hunt to bring down the culprits.

The story depicted in the film was very resonant for Belgium, as I understand it. But, unfortunately, this moment is not played out in the film. I, and I think most of those present here, have not studied Belgian true crime in depth, so it would be interesting to know more, but we are not told. But that is not my main complaint.

The film is a blend of a story based on real events (the extent to which it is factually accurate is an open question), crime and social drama, and in some places (a little later) even sprinklings of other genres. The idea is quite workable. And it all starts and moves quite organically - the running time is justified. But in each line, there is a sense of incompleteness or understatement: the main character and his drama are not fully revealed. If the authors had decided to make a mini-series, I'm sure it would have been more interesting. Towards the end, we are given (most likely unconsciously) an Easter egg to the movie Hannibal with evil animals, and this shift to horror does not really fit into the overall logic.

The greatest success is the story of the main character. A man who challenged the system and went all the way. The creators succeeded in this. And the actor conveyed the mood, although, in general, the work with the actors, as I see it, was not completed.

Well, closer to the end, the tension subsides. And the problem is not that there is no sense of catharsis or shock—they didn't really put a period on it. There is no final conclusion. Well, except for a certain point in the hero's line, but nothing more.

Thus, one gets the feeling that they showed not a film, but a kind of sketch.
