A stunning, incomparable film with incredible emotional power. A true masterpiece, one of the best in the illustrious biographies of two great American actors: Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. They are rightly called masters of their craft—they can play any role!

And here, both reveal unprecedented facets of their acting talents. So different and so diverse, these powerful actors, finding themselves in the same team, did not try to pull the blanket over themselves - their work is coordinated, precise, each played their role magnificently, while remaining in their favorite roles.

Yes, Robin Williams does not play a comedic role here; on the contrary, we see ‘Tragic Williams’, playing a man with a complex character and a complex fate, but even such a role he fills with pure and sad humor, making his hero a hopeless dreamer, a loser, and simply a man not of this world.

Why did Williams' character manage to truly befriend De Niro's character? Because both of them were lost in time — and the funny doctor with a shy smile turns out to be no less rejected in this world than De Niro's character, who has been detached from reality for 30 years.

And, note, Williams never once faltered in combining comedy with tragedy; you believe him unconditionally—there are very few actors who are so versatile and skilled. Yes, you want to trust his character, you want to talk to him, you want to shake his hand—the viewer is completely imbued with sympathy and love for his character. Natural kindness, charm, tact, and outward and inward vulnerability—all this allows Williams to play doctors perfectly (Robin has five more films on the medical theme in his creative repertoire).

Robert De Niro does not play his role, he lives it. Without bringing any particular psychological depth to his role, he nevertheless creates the image of an adult child discovering the simplest human joys, a man who has ‘lost’ 30 years, who was neither a teenager nor a young man, and who is experiencing true happiness for the first time. A man trying to make up for lost time, naive, eager for discoveries and afraid of them.

The scenes where Leo hugs his mother, sees his face in the mirror, goes into the river, and experiences the bitterness of terrible disappointment - you just have to see them, no words can describe the feelings that De Niro conveys - it's impossible to hold back the tears at these moments!

This film has no moral message; it is truthful, honest, and very human. But it is precisely this kind of film that will make you remember what life is and what it means to live. After watching Awakenings, you begin to appreciate simple joys. You think, "Oh my God! I can go to the toilet by myself, read, write, think, talk, see, love! Isn't that happiness!‘ After all, what the characters in the film are fighting for is given to most people, and the latter have no idea how to use it. This film will help you rethink some of your values and be kinder to 'other’ people.

The film is touching but optimistic, very sad but bright and humane. It's impossible not to love it! A great film with great actors!
