Patlabor 2: The Movie 4K 1993 Ultra HD 2160p
The date is 2002, three years after the events of Patlabor: The Movie. The destruction of a United Nations Labor team in South East Asia begins the build-up to a deadly terrorist plan that threatens to send shockwaves throughout Japan's military. With evidence of an impending military takeover, the scattered members of the original SVD (Special Vehicle Division) must gather to defend the city against danger.

The very film that redefines animation 9/10
I didn’t expect an anime about robot cops to turn out to be one of the most intelligent political films I’ve ever seen. Patlabor 2 caught me off guard in the best possible way.
There are almost no fight scenes here. Instead, there are long nighttime shots of Tokyo, quiet conversations between two older people over a cup of tea, and a sense of impending disaster that grips you from the very first minutes. Oshii builds tension not with explosions, but with pauses and it works far more powerfully.
The main villain here isn’t a maniac or a fanatic. He’s a man with a very clear and uncomfortable logic. Once you realize exactly what he’s trying to prove, it’s hard to just brush him off and label him as “bad.” That’s what makes the film truly unsettling.
The 4K version looks incredible. Watercolor backgrounds, rain, the city at night all of this looks like a painting at this resolution. It’s hard to believe the film is over thirty years old.
I watched it late at night. After the ending, I just sat there for a long time. Few films like this are made in animation or in cinema in general.
