Police gets a call-out to a lonely hotel in the Alps. When an officer gets to the hotel everything seems to be all right. Suddenly, an avalanche cuts them out from the rest of the world, and strange things are going to happen.

I read "Dead Mountaineer's Hotel" in literally a day and was absolutely thrilled! The characters, the concept, the humor, the plot—everything was top-notch—it is the Strugatskys, after all. And just as I was itching to watch the movie, it happened to be on TV the very next day.

Yeah, where to even start?

The hotel itself looked more like some kind of laboratory than a cozy, secluded cottage. The actors were a total nightmare. Of all the characters, the only one I liked was the dog. Everyone else went against not only my expectations but also the book’s description. The music, which gets stuck in your head, gets annoying from the very first minutes of the movie.

This story could have made for a great movie, but it turned out to be a boring detective story!
