Short Night of Glass Dolls 4K 1971 Ultra HD 2160p

Aldo Lado's mystery thriller, largely based on the aesthetics of jallo, the only difference is that the action is moved from the picturesque streets and art spaces of the Apennine peninsula to the territory of Prague.

The story of a journalist trying to make sense of the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend gradually takes unexpected twists and turns - in the course of the search, the viewer encounters a conspiracy, a mystical sect dedicated to an orgiastic cult, and the somnambulistic atmosphere of a nightmare. Prague in Aldo Lado's movie is no less absurdist and mysterious than in Franz Kafka's novels. Perhaps that is why “A Short Night of Glass Dolls” dispenses with stylized bloodshed - the prevailing nightmare atmosphere and electro-shock denouement do their job properly here.

User Review

The first half of the movie evokes unreservedly positive emotions: unhurried narration, intelligence in the presentation of the material and a sense of proportion in the filming of Prague landscapes. The very telling of the story as if by a dead man, including from the morgue, is quite entertaining and watchable.

Alas, as is often the case, the closer you get to the clue, the more boring and frustrating the movie becomes, and the proposed rationale for the cult is outright stupidity, quite pompous. Honestly, more could have been extracted from Morricone, Prague and Barbara Bach - the director crumpled a promising beginning with an empty ending. Why they took the empty Ingrid Thulin into the movie, except to show off the scarves on her head, I never understood.
