Maniac Cop 4K 1988 Ultra HD 2160p
A good mix of science fiction and horror in the action genre. A dead, yes, dead cop terrorizes New Yorkers, killing innocent victims in the most ruthless way. It is almost impossible to kill him, since he is already dead. Why does he kill, and who is he?

Do you know Larry Cohen (who, by the way, passed away in 2019)? He was a cheerful guy. He directed a huge number of cheap horror movies—Taste of Fear, Q, the It Lives franchise, and others. Cohen also wrote a script about a hellish maniac cop who killed defenseless people on the streets of New York.
Larry refused to direct the film. He gave the script to William Lustig, who agreed to do it. The lead roles were given to well-known genre actors Tom Atkins (Halloween III, Night of the Creeps) and Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead, Bubba Ho-Tep). An interesting moment—at the 66th minute, Sam Raimi appears (yes, Tamara and I are a couple, I couldn't let Bruce go, hehe).
As for the maniac cop himself, he clearly needed some kind of colorful companion. And he was found—Robert Z'Darr, an American of Lithuanian descent. The guy had a colorful appearance. He had a large lower jaw (if you're interested, find photos on the internet), a large build, and was tall, i.e., he was really intimidating.
Now about the film. Let's be honest. Lustig is far from John Carpenter (naturally), he's still second tier, but he has one trick up his sleeve (which I noticed back in 1980's Maniac) – he's great at creating atmosphere in his horror films. The atmosphere of the gloomy streets of big cities.
Seriously. In the first few seconds of Maniac Cop, it might even seem like Joe Spinell is about to pop out from around the corner with a knife, ha ha ha. Lustig keeps you in suspense. A silent psychopathic cop, an unfortunate victim, screams, etc. It's like watching another bloody slasher movie, but in the second half, Lustig changes direction.
The film turns into some kind of crazy trash action movie (everything as it should be—with the capture of a police station, a chase, shootouts, and a maniac cop grinning at the camera, “I'll get you all”). It starts to smack of Mark Goldblatt's “Deadly Fury,” ha-ha-ha (a wonderful film, I recommend it). Is that good or bad? It's fine, guys.
