Night of the Living Dead 4K 1990 Ultra HD 2160p
A brother and sister visit their mother's grave in a cemetery near Pittsburgh. The brother frightens his sister with stories about zombies, unaware that he is not far from reality. Suddenly, one of the dead attacks them; the brother is killed, and Barbara runs away, discovering a farmhouse along the way. After a while, Ben, whose car has run out of gas, drives up to it. They decide to stay in the house and prepare to defend themselves. Later, it turns out that several other people are hiding in the basement of the house. Together, they must barricade themselves in and wait out the terrible night — after all, the zombies will not sit on the porch and wait for people to come out themselves — they will try to break in — their desire to taste human flesh is insanely strong.
User Review
The most successful remake of Romero's 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, recognized as a classic of the genre and the beginning of the trend for films about the living dead. The director of this film is Tom Savini, who worked with Romero on many of his films. The script was written by Romero himself, but underwent some changes and reinterpretations, ultimately resulting in a completely different film with different characters and a different ending.
Savini had no directing experience at the time; this was his first and, unfortunately, last time in this role (not counting an episode in the series Tales from the Dark Side). Even now, almost 20 years later, the film still looks great. The living dead look simply superb, but that's to be expected. Although Savini had not yet worked as a director at that time, he had extensive experience in cinema, including as a makeup and special effects specialist.
As in the original film, the plot tells the story of a group of people hiding in a small house from a crowd of hungry dead people. At the same time, the main idea of the script is based precisely on the relationships between people in this situation, with the dead being only a pretext. This idea is central to all of Romero's films: that man's worst enemy is man himself, who can be far more dangerous than any zombie. Almost all of the characters have undergone no significant changes, except for Barbara. In the original film, she was a hysterical blonde who spent almost the entire film in a state of deep shock until our rather dead friends decided to have a bite to eat. In the remake, on the contrary, Barbara is the main character. The film features classic zombies, invented by John Russo and George Romero, who are not particularly agile and do not like lead in their brains, but one characteristic that was described in Russo's book and transferred to the screen in the first film is missing. In the book, the dead burned like matches, but fortunately, this idea did not gain popularity in the future.
Like the original, this film can already be considered a classic of zombie films and is a must-see for people interested in this genre. It would be wrong to say that “the copy surpassed the original,” but the film is a worthy sequel.
