The Phantom of the Opera 4K 1998 Ultra HD 2160p
Standard story of the Phantom does have one major variation - The phantom is not a disfigured individual, but rather is an unwashed orphan abandoned in the sewers under the Paris Opera & raised by rats. The Phantom invokes death upon anyone who dares harm his beloved rats. In fact, The Phantom's nemesis is the chief exterminator who develops a rat-catching machine.

This film is quite different from its more famous and more modern counterpart. There isn't as much music or fairy tale elements here. The reality here is quite brutal. Naturally, the film did not receive high ratings. I don't know what the $10 million was spent on, because the special effects and other elements are not of a very high standard. But the message of the film is very, very interesting, even if you only realize it in hindsight. Yes, the film is not a masterpiece, and it doesn't even pretend to be, but there is a certain atmosphere...
This Ghost, even though he's not very humane and in some ways resembles a maniac (to tell the truth, in many ways), nevertheless evokes sympathy in me. There is definitely something good in him.
In the 2004 version, Christine infuriated me with her treatment of the Phantom, but here she can evoke positive emotions.
I think there is meaning here, not only about light and darkness, but also in the scene where this terrible creature runs after the Phantom and demands that the monster be killed...
