15th century Europe. The kidnapper of children, the disgusting, evil dwarf hunchback Rumpelstiltskin (Grodenchik) has lain at the bottom of the sea cursed by a good sorceress until the present day. He, turned into a greenish stone, buys in an antique store widow killed by a bandit policeman, left alone with a little son. The saleswoman, who looks like a witch, says that the stone fulfills wishes. Rumpelstiltskin fulfills the woman's wish and revives her husband, and he saw his son and even slept with his wife, but in the morning instead of her husband she was waited for by the terrible hunchback himself - the fulfillment of the wish broke the spell. The monster wants to take the child away. How she gets out of the nightmare, you will find out for yourself, watching this quality, mystical movie based on the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm, something echoing the “Leprechaun”.

User Review

After such a successful 'Leprechaun' Mark Jones made a decent and no less interesting horror movie, which, I must say, turned out to be more serious, especially in terms of the villain himself. Outwardly Rumpelstiltskin turned out to be much scarier than Leprechaun, and his image is something like Freddy Krueger. The villain is clearly not devoid of black humor, likes to laugh, and the chase for a child on a biker causes only a smile. But as I have already written, the movie turned out to be not so funny as 'Leprechaun'. The dwarf turned out to be sinister, and his chilling laughter is quite impressive. With his laughter Rumpelstiltskin reminded me of another famous horror movie character. We are talking about Dancing Clown Peniwise from Stephen King's novel 'It'. So, the image of the dwarf turned out to be as bright and charismatic as the image of the clown. Let them have completely different history and appearance, but manners, behavior, laughter are very much alike.

I was also pleased with the unusual story of the villain. It is quite fabulous and gives off children's books filled with fantasy, spells, magic, magic. Rumpelstiltskin is afraid of straw and fire, like some character from children's fairy tales. However, the movie is not only for the little ones. It contains erotica, foul language of the main villain, bloody scenes. This movie has established itself for adult audiences, so children are better to watch it only in the presence of parents or in general wait for some time.

The game of actors liked. Played decently, especially I want to note Tommy Blaze in the role of Max Bergram. He was a very funny character, who with his antics only raised the mood and interest in the movie. Max Grodenchik also deserves attention. Well got into the role of an evil dwarf, resulting in another charismatic character of horror films. Kim Johnston Ulrich played a loving mother not bad, hence no complaints to her game either. From this comes out that the film turned out to be not some cheap category B, but a worthy and serious tape, not without a share of black humor, but knowing the boundary and limit, does not slip into marasmus, as most of these kinds of films. This is what pleased me, first of all, and the movie.

I also want to note the atmosphere. I was very pleased with the final scene in the cemetery, which turned out to be quite spectacular and creepy. The dwarf, unlike the Leprechaun, is more dislike than sympathy and it's not bad for the movie. Rumpelstiltskin is much nastier and scarier than Warwick Davis' character, which certainly plays an important role in the atmosphere and suspense of the movie. His mannerisms, sinister laughter, hunchbackedness, ugliness really deserve attention and significantly affect the picture as a whole. Such a character will be long remembered, especially if you get acquainted with him in childhood.

Special effects came out average and quite believable. It is not necessary to scold for some ridiculousness of murders, as the movie was made relatively long ago and here the essence of the picture is in the atmosphere, not in guts and blood, which is now full of fresh low-budget horror movies. The movie has a story, an interesting, exciting plot, good acting. Maybe seychs movie is no longer as catchy as in the 90s, but I think if I had watched it as a child, the movie would have made a strong impression. It is very atmospheric and not badly staged in terms of a horror movie and the humor here is much less than in the whole Leprechaun franchise. That's what I like about the movie, i.e. it doesn't blatantly copy earlier movies with a similar plot, but tries to go in its own direction and manages it perfectly.

It's a shame that such a movie is forgotten and little known. Mark Jones has shown himself worthily in the director's chair here and really made a worthwhile tape, imbued with childhood, gloominess and a great villain, who with his charisma, unusual appearance can significantly squeeze with more famous villains like Freddy Krueger and Leprechaun.
