What a sweetheart, honestly.

Of course, it's not yet on par with the remarkable ‘Project A’, ‘Armor of God 2’, ‘Showdown in the Bronx’, or ‘Mr. Cool’. There is a certain strain in The Young Master, sometimes excessive pathos, a plot that is not entirely clear, and no vivid images. But this is all a matter of experience, and Jackie's signature style is already beginning to crystallize.
Better than dancing with a fan, I have seen few martial arts stunts in Jackie's later films. Witty, graceful, masterful—beyond praise. It's no wonder that the stunt took such an impossible number of takes. The humorous moments are not bad, and it's nice to see Jackie naked in the scene with washing off the dirt—he undoubtedly has an excellent figure.

The final fight is too harsh and, in my opinion, drawn out. Later, Jackie would abandon such “solid kung fu” in his films. Perhaps this was a result of following the unspoken traditions of “ordinary” Chinese films.

If you're new to Jackie Chan's work, it's better to start with one of the films mentioned above rather than this one. But for those who already love Jackie, it's worth watching The Young Master.
