User Review
This is perhaps the most art-house movie by the master of crime filmmaking, Martin Scorsese. In some moments, the narrative style gives off a David Lynch vibe, but the movie itself is unlike anything else. And certainly, not all Scorsese fans will appreciate it. But it is still worth watching the movie.

The plot shows a few nights in the life of an ambulance worker who has to go out every night to call patients. And almost always they are either drug addicts, or homeless people and other, other, other. He works in one of the darkest neighborhoods of New York, on the example of which Scorsese shows all the filth and filthiness of the night life of the city, which literally presses on everyone who had time to look into it. And the closer the viewer gets to the finale, the more the movie plunges into hallucinogenic visions of the main character, caused by alcohol and drugs. And then you start to doubt yourself - is there a catch? What if something has already happened to the protagonist and he is on his way to paradise? After all, this theme is repeatedly seen in the movie.

The atmosphere in the movie is viscous and dragging, if not repulsive. The movie is full of dirt and all kinds of filth. Throughout the tape you will not meet a single happy person. One dreams of moving to another job, another seeks salvation from drug dealers, the third drowns out the pain by beating up alkas and homeless people. Of course, not everyone will like such gloominess. But what can't be taken away from the movie is the strong direction and in general - the high artistic level of the tape.

This picture - the interval between Martin's refusal of the services of his regular actor Robert DeNiro and the search for a new one in the person of Leonardo DiCaprio. Lucky to play in this interval Nicholas Cage, who is just perfect for the main role. His look and his own manner of playing as never before exactly fit the character written on the script sheet. It's just a hundred percent hit! Definitely, this is a role Cage can take credit for. Because of such a bright central role, the supporting cast remained a bit in the shadows: Ving Rhames, Patricia Arquette and John Goodman played perfectly, but still the leader here is undoubtedly Cage.

Raising the Dead is Martin Scorsese's most atypical movie, departing from his own standards and accents, but still with the same artistic value. Obviously not everyone will like it, but still the film takes its unusualness and I can't say that I regret the time spent. I liked the movie in general. But it's just that I myself have a cool attitude to this kind of tapes.
