Shine 4K 1996 Ultra HD 2160p
A touching drama about an Australian pianist whose father (a Jewish refugee from Poland during fascism), himself a failed musician, fanatically and obsessively wanted his son to become an outstanding performer. The boy, David Helfgott (the film is based on real events), really turned out to be a true genius and, despite his father's despotism and his demand for unquestioning obedience, left home to study. He had to leave his family forever (his father never took him back), but he achieved brilliant results, performing Rachmaninoff's most difficult third concerto at a competition. His mind was clouded by overexertion, but after treatment in a psychiatric hospital, without ever becoming “normal,” which he probably never was, he not only managed to return to concert activity, but also married an admirer of his talent, a female astrologer.

Two amazing films have been made about two extremely gifted people who are still alive today: A Beautiful Mind, about the American mathematician John Nash, who won the Nobel Prize in 1994, and Shine, about the Australian pianist David Helfgott. Both films use their real names. Just think how many people are honored in this way during their lifetime—very few.
From the very first moments of the film, you feel sympathy for this absent-minded, completely crazy, ridiculous man. And then follows the difficult story of his life—poor, full of difficulties and hopes, until a heavy blow knocked David Helfgott out of action for many years. New friends and a gradual return to life in society.
After watching these films, you think about how difficult human destiny can be and how to appreciate the greatness of the people who live next to you. Both were seriously ill and incapacitated for a long time, but in both cases, the illness receded to some extent. John Nash now works at a university, and David Helfgott is a concert pianist. Incidentally, most of the piano pieces in the film Shine are performed by David Helfgott himself, and to the highest standard, including Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 3 and Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee.
In my opinion, the film ‘Shine’ is much better than ‘A Beautiful Mind’ because
politics (and even the Cold War and spies) were added to the film ‘A Beautiful Mind’ in order to make it more popular among Americans. In reality, John Nash tried to demonstratively renounce his American citizenship and even traveled to East Germany to get to the USSR, but he was not allowed into the USSR. Regarding the film Shine, I have only seen one comment on the internet from David Helfgott's sister, who said that their father was not that cruel.
Jeffrey Rush won an Oscar for his stunning portrayal of David Helfgott. Compare this with his role as Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean to see how multifaceted this actor's talent is.
Finding the film Shine on store shelves is a stroke of luck, and it's a shame that few people have seen it, as it leaves no one indifferent.
