The 1960s. Four teenagers, four friends, grow up in “Hell’s Kitchen”—one of New York City’s most crime-ridden neighborhoods. Through a moment of carelessness, they commit murder and end up in a juvenile detention center, placed “under the care” of a perverted guard.

A decade and a half has passed, but the horrific memories of the past are still vivid, and when they run into that very guard in a café one day, two of the boys empty their pistols into him. This murder marks the beginning of a new trial…

This is a film about life, which can be cruel and unjust—so unjust that it’s hard to imagine. This is a film about friendship, the kind that’s genuine and strong enough to bring together even a gangster and a lawyer. This is a film about the cold-bloodedness and cruelty one might encounter every day. This is a film about revenge—sweet revenge. And no matter what people say about revenge being a trait of the weak, in this situation—when no one will believe you or help you, when you don’t know how to go on living with this humiliation and self-loathing—revenge is the only thing left…

The filmmakers claim that this story is the absolute truth. The authorities disagree. But look around. Our world is far from perfect. And stories like this are taken from real life. I believe the creators of this film. The movie turned out to be authentic, vivid, and very terrifying in the sense that it is children who find themselves at the center of these horrific events. It’s chilling and brilliant. (And, in my opinion, film critics underestimated the film.)
