User Review
Fudoh: The New Generation is not just another 90s crime thriller, but a landmark film that introduced Takashi Miike to international audiences and laid the groundwork for his future masterpieces, such as Audition and Ichi the Killer.
The film is a pure distillation of Miike’s signature style: a grotesque, transgressive, and ultra violent cinematic experience in which the aesthetics of crime manga are elevated to an absolute. From five year old children with firearms to hermaphrodites shooting poisonous darts from their genitals the director methodically shatters every social taboo, all while maintaining a striking drive and a dark, Shakespearean drama about the conflict between fathers and children.
