The Crush 4K 1993

Darien (Silverstone) isn’t even fifteen yet, but she’s quite the young lady. And of course she had to fall in love with the intellectual journalist Nick Elliott (Elves), who’s renting a room from her parents. Nick desperately tries to resist, but Darien—who’s clearly lost her mind from an overload of emotions—resorts to cunning and dangerous tricks to seduce the well-mannered reporter. The suspense builds with every frame, and you finally realize that Darien is a younger version of Glenn Close’s malevolent, maniacal fury from *Fatal Attraction*. And even though an American video guide gave the film a “turkey” (the worst rating), the thriller is actually quite watchable. Elishia is just too beautiful.

Comparisons to the movie *Lolita* are inevitable, no matter how you look at it. Simply because the stories are similar. Although, if you really think about it, they’re completely different. It’s just that in both cases, the main character is a little girl—a nymphet. Only in our case, she’s the one who starts “tyrannizing” others.

The film raises a very serious issue that adults sometimes pay very little attention to. It shows an example of how a lack of attention—or something else—in a young girl eventually leads to a very serious psychosis, which has terrible consequences. Plus, it illustrates very well just how deeply, horribly deeply, and madly a teenage girl can fall in love.

Of course, this film is wonderful in large part because of Alicia. Silverstone gave a simply fantastic performance. Of course, her appearance played a big part in that. It feels as though this is exactly what a nymphet should be—both alluring and, at the same time, intimidating. It’s also worth noting that this is her first major role. It’s worth acknowledging that not many people pull off a debut like this—talented, truly talented.

The movie is a real page-turner. Unlike many films, there’s no sort of “warm-up” or “build-up” to the plot here. The viewer is immediately plunged headfirst into the action. The film doesn’t drag; I wasn’t bored even once while watching it.

The only downside I can point out is the moment at the end of the film when Alicia’s character is sent flying a good five meters by a punch. It looks far too arcade-like and implausible. Otherwise, the film is good.

And here’s the paradox—there doesn’t seem to be anything supernatural in the film. It doesn’t boast any major awards (just an MTV award) or big-name stars. But perhaps the magical Silverstone simply won’t let anyone give this film a rating lower than a ten.
