I wouldn't call Eli Roth a master of cinema, but he is someone who can come up with fresh ideas and make something worthy of attention. That's why when I see Roth's name in the “Producer” column, my interest in a particular film increases many times over. That's what happened with the film Clown. A decent trailer, a scary poster, and an interesting backstory served as good packaging in this case. But what's inside?

Everyone remembers Santa Claus in his father's slippers, right? Well, this is a similar story. The plot tells of a simple everyday situation when, due to a silly misunderstanding, the father of the family has to dress up as a clown for his son's birthday. The party goes as planned, but after it ends, the most interesting part begins—the costume does not want to come off as easily as it was put on...

By the way, the moment with the clown costume itself is extremely simple, but still original in its own way. In any case, I didn't feel any déjà vu. But what happens next? And then, unfortunately, there is blatant plagiarism. I think it's obvious to everyone what movie any viewer will remember when watching “The Clown.” THE SAME creature in clown makeup STILL craves to devour innocent children. Only, unlike Pennywise, the creature here has no charisma whatsoever... And overall, the presentation is objectively weaker, compared to both the original and the new version of the popular horror film It. The plot development is just as uninteresting, and the acting is completely unconvincing. The only “positive” difference is the meat. Yes... there's plenty of it here...

Overall, for a passable horror film, the director has probably done enough, but there is no guarantee that you will watch ‘The Clown’ to the end without falling asleep long before the final credits. Mr. Roth, if you want everything to be done right, do it yourself!
