User Review
The story follows a young woman with psychic abilities as she tries to uncover the mystery behind her sister’s death after unexpectedly arriving to stay at a widower’s country house.
An unsettling and incredibly uncomfortable horror film that strikes the perfect balance between jump scares and a tense atmosphere. This is the second film from director Damien McCarthy, who also directed the equally eerie "Caveat" (incidentally, "Oddity" includes a reference to the sinister rabbit). A distinctive feature of both films is that they blend supernatural horror with human evil.
Another strength of the film lies in its simplicity—in the best sense of the word: the goal is to scare the audience to the bone using every possible tool at its disposal, without resorting to banality built on clichéd jump scares. At the same time, attention is paid to the story, which features a couple of plot twists.
The result is a skillfully told, spectacularly scary story without metaphors or lofty ideas—simply a high-quality and perfectly balanced horror film.
