Stroyline
Two campers in the New Jersey woods have their outdoor fun interrupted by the arrival of a meteorite crashing nearby. They go to investigate the crater, but are suddenly attacked and devoured by alien parasites who have hitched a ride to Earth. After finishing off the campers, the hungry space monsters head for a nearby town, where they make their domain in the basement of an old house soon begin polishing off one hapless inhabitant after another. Four young teenagers, plus one pre-teen boy, try to find a way to stop the angry space monsters before they reproduce and literally eat humanity.

After Ridley Scott's film Alien, everyone who wasn't too lazy started making films about evil and cunning aliens whose sole purpose was to destroy life in all its forms. Interesting fact: if humanity discovers that it is not alone in the universe, the first reaction of people will not be to enter into peaceful negotiations with representatives of another intelligent life form, but to open fire on them. Those aliens who somehow manage to survive will end up under the knife of Dr. Mengele's descendants, so it's hardly a happy ending. Yeah, it's a pretty bleak picture. So, as you may have guessed, our guest today is a terrifying monster from the depths of space. I would even say a brood of monsters.

A space parasite arrives on Earth, whose functions boil down to the following: eat, reproduce, survive. A curious and very dangerous combination. Moreover, if the idea had been developed further, this monster could have successfully competed with the living dead to see who could destroy humanity faster. Unfortunately or fortunately, the idea was not pursued, and I, in turn, return to the plot. So, the alien organism, not lacking in intelligence, finds itself a damp and moldy place, namely the basement of a house where a large family lives, after which it begins to multiply by division and snack on the household members. Idyllic!

Even now, after such a long time, the film still looks pretty good. It has all the ingredients of a good horror movie: a bloodthirsty monster, which, of course, was made by hand, giving the monsters of the past a unique charm. The murder scenes are lavish, both in terms of special effects and ketchup (the brood of monsters is not trained in good manners, but what can you do). The actors, although they perform at an average level, demonstrate surprisingly remarkable mental abilities, which is already a good sign for B movies. And the cinematography is quite good. However, there are some drawbacks, the main one being the script. That said, the first half of the film is quite successful—the viewer is introduced to the family in whose house the brood of alien creatures has settled. With the main culprit, who feeds on random passersby, everything seems to be fine and dandy, but closer to the middle of the film, the screenwriter pulls a fast one and introduces more than a dozen faceless characters whose sole purpose is to feed the monster. This move turns the film into literal trash, which is not good. I was also disappointed by the musical accompaniment, whose melodies spoil the atmosphere of the film and drive you into despair. It would have been better to do without music altogether.

To sum up, I would say that this is a fairly strong horror film, and if you like this genre, then you can safely watch The Deadly Spawn, you won't regret it. In any case, I didn't regret it.
