In response to Japan's request for a countermeasure against Godzilla, UN engineers construct Mechagodzilla, a giant robotic version of Godzilla. Nonetheless, Godzilla proves himself a force to be reckoned with against this monstrosity and battle ensues.

And finally, in the fifth film of Godzilla's second reign, a problem that had been brewing for a long time began to emerge.
Yes, it's very commendable that Heisei is still a very cohesive and distinct franchise (do you want to see a mix of Disney's Marvel and DC Warner Bros.? Then this is the place for you), all of whose films are linked by a single common thread that does not break, no matter how much the screenwriters kick it or try to stretch it, constantly clumsily reworking the original mythology and sliding everything into unnecessary mysticism or illogical crazy fantasy.
But the trouble lies elsewhere. Now, when it was necessary to find a new outlet for the serious tone (and supposed realism, but here it's such nonsense that I'm ashamed to use that word), you don't understand whose side to take, who to sympathize with. More precisely, you want to sympathize with everyone, but that's the main problem.
You can't mock the viewer's feelings and play with their mind like that.
In this battle of emotions, the viewer loses, feeling devastated. Only the local Hachiko saves the day — he is such a cute creature that all sympathy is on his side. Cuteness wins.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the now openly expressed idea of spiritual solidarity among monsters. No, I understand that it's just another natural symbolism and all that, but when two monsters tear each other apart, and in the end, when both have lost, one gives its energy so that the other can continue to live - that's also indescribably cute. And another goal against humans.
But overall, it's not all that bad.
The film decided to return to the roots of Heisei, setting the battle scenes in the same hurricane-like and epic spirit, and specifically as a reboot of Mechagodzilla, the film is quite tolerable. Much more acceptable than the abuse of King Ghidorah's mythology. But why is there a 2 in the title? Oh well. At least you won't get confused, even if it's not a sequel.
By the way, the same year saw the release of the landmark Power Rangers, which borrowed almost all of its features from the Godzilla franchise. So, I'll add another plus point: I can once again clearly understand who is ‘borrowing’ ideas from whom.
