User Review
The penultimate film of the Sega era may delight viewers with Godzilla's clash with his most beloved rival—after King Ghidorah, of course—MechaGodzilla. After all, what could be better than the King of Monsters? Only the Metal King of Monsters! Despite its clearly interesting opponent, the film has its share of problems.
First, it's an extremely drawn-out story about yet another group of aliens who decide to take over the world with the help of a giant monster, who are once again opposed by the brave Japanese—so the monster battles only await you in the last quarter of the film.
Second, Godzilla's new “partner” — King Caesar — is a sort of giant upright lion, as if cobbled together from the remains of other deceased monsters' costumes. In the best traditions of Mothra, Caesar also needs to sing a heart-rending song first before he can engage in an unequal battle with the enemy's metal beast.
The battle involving Mecha-Godzilla here and beyond will be very vivid and entertaining, and finally, the ending of the film will be something other than a couple of monsters flying off into the sunset without any significant damage.
Overall, it's a pretty good movie, which gave us some excellent sequels in the future.
